Anatomy of a Learning Disability
|
- The individual encounters a confusion (whether it’s a word, symbol, or object).
- The confusion triggers disorientation (a false perception of the stimulus that caused the confusion, trying to recognize and resolve the confusion).
- The false perceptions cause the individual to make mistakes.
- The mistakes cause emotional reactions (no one likes to make mistakes).
- Emotional reactions bring about frustration.
- In an effort to end the frustrations and stop the mistakes, the individual develops compulsive solutions as a way to get around the problems without really dealing with them. These compulsive solutions are what disable the learning process.
